Eustress is the kind of stress that feels invigorating rather than draining. It’s typically short-term, focused, and within your coping abilities. It can enhance performance, boost motivation, and even improve emotional resilience. Psychologist Richard Lazarus first coined the term to distinguish between harmful stress (distress) and beneficial stress (eustress).
Eustress reminds us that not all stress is bad—it can be a spark for growth, creativity, and joy. The key is recognizing it and using it to your advantage.
