Black women and health
Everyday individual discrimination brought about and exacerbated by exposure to institutional and systemic or structural discrimination can increase our exposure to ‘the wear and tear on the body’, referred to as Allostatic load. There is sufficient scientific evidence to prove that Allostatic load affects women of African and Caribbean descent are at a higher risk resulting in ill health and premature death. As a result, Black women’s bodies are most likely impacted by a plethora of interconnected health issues so there is a need to take a holistic approach…
